Cindy Holmes Received the SRES Designation

Nashville, TN (Grassroots Newswire) 10/08/2009 -- An associate with EXIT Realty Music City, Cindy has just earned the SRES (Senior Real Estate Specialist) Designation.

When Cindy was asked why she decided to take the course, she said, “My mother became ill and the diagnosis was not good. She would never get better. While investigating different types of care at different stages of her progressing illness, she and I ran across a ton of issues; what would insurance cover? what would Medicare pay? if she had to go to a nursing home, what would happen to her retirement, house, savings, etc.

When my mother passed away in March 2008, I immediately had experience in dealing with Senior Real Estate issues.

My mother owned a home, so there were many questions about her estate; were all her debts paid? could anyone put a lien against the home? did she have a will? do you have to go through probate court? did she receive care from TN Care? do they have a claim on the house?

There where many legal & tax ramifications that I quickly had to learn.

Thankfully, I didn’t have any siblings, my father had passed in 2000 and my mother never had to live in assisted living or a nursing home.

Therefore, I had a smooth process.

My family & friends were quite aware of my personal experience and I soon began to receive calls asking me questions, pertaining to my experience, as well as personal questions asking me what they should do in their own personal situations.

That is when I decided that I needed to take this course & receive the designation. Learning further how I can help Seniors with their Real Estate needs.

As a Real Estate Agent, I can assist them with downsizing, buying or selling their home, or help them find a senior community. Since I can't give legal or financial advice, as a Lawyer or CPA can do, this course gave me the tools to guide clients to the people that can answer their questions, from "What if I put my house in my son's name" to "what is a reverse mortgage".

This is actually a very special designation because I am one of the "Sandwich" generation, one of the Baby Boomers, that is sandwiched between trying to pursue my career, helping with the kids or grandkids and then taking on the care of a parent. PLUS I myself will one day soon become a senior. I own Real Estate and I too want to properly handle my own properties and spare my family the frustration of wading through all those issues while they may be also dealing with what to do with me.”

Cindy Holmes also holds the ABR designation and is a licensed Broker.
