New Halfway House for Women Open in Augusta, GA

Augusta, GA (Grassroots Newswire) 11-30-2009 -- THRESHOLD TO FREEDOM, located in downtown Augusta, is a non-profit corporation whose sole purpose is to provide privately subsidized housing for women who wish to remain sober in either the AA or NA program and who lack resources for or access to a safe living environment. There are currently two locations, with the capability to house up to 15 women.

Founded by Becky Donner of EXIT Complete Realty and Dawn Creech of Meybohm Realtors, Threshold to Freedom's purpose is to empower women to acquire skills necessary to live independently. Residents must abide by a strict zero tolerance policy for drugs and/or alcohol use as well as any unwillingness to cooperate with house rules. The program provides food and shelter in a dormitory setting, along with bedding, personal hygiene products, and laundry facilities.

Becky Donner, Vice President of Threshold to Freedom, is quoted as saying "We believe that recovery happens when people are surrounded by others who are filledd with hope and excitement about life. Recovery also depends on components such as support from people and information about the skills needed to live well inrecovery. Our hope is to provide that support and information."

Threshold to Freedom survives on donations from the community. All charitable contributions may be made payable to Threshold to Freedom, P.O. Box 913, Augusta, GA 30901.
