Tonya has been a resident of Selma, Alabama, most of her life. Eight of her young adult years were spent in Montgomery, Alabama. She returned back to Selma and currently resides there now. Born and raised in Selma, she attended Selma High School. Tonya Chestnut holds four degrees: Bachelor of Science Degree in Early Childhood Education from Jacksonville State University; Master of Education Degree in Early Childhood Education from Alabama State University; Education Specialist Degree in Instructional Leadership from Auburn University, Montgomery; and, an Education Doctorate Degree in Transformational Leadership from Concordia University located in Portland, Oregon.
