EXIT Realty Foothills Advises How to Save Money in the New Year

7 Ways to Save Money

La Verne, CA (Grassroots Newswire) 1/25/2011 --Saving money is always a great topic to write about. There are not too many people who can spend money worry free. U.S. News had a great article informing consumers how to save money and it is great advise. So here are 7 tips to help save money this year.

1. Coupon systems. This system will not work if you don't organize it but if it is done right it could literally save you hundreds of dollars. The trick is to organize them in a wallet that you can carry with you in the car or a purse, so when you are out shopping and you need them, they are not sitting at home.

2. Go Green. This has been a trendy topic recently but it could actually save you money in the long run. From as little as unplugging your phone chargers when you are not using them to getting cloth towels to wipe down counters in the kitchen. These are great tips to "reduce your carbon footprint."

3. Check your receipts. Before you leave the store make sure there are no errors on the receipt. Double check that the cashier gave you the sale discount. You should also double check to make sure the items your thought should be discounted are the actual item that was on sale. It is amazing how many times we grab an item thinking it is on sale only to learn after we get home it was the item next to it.

4. Turn off the lights. Yes a very simple one but check to see how this will help you save on the electric bill. It works!

5. Late Fees. Pay your bills on time. I know this is another obvious one but those late fees will start to stack up.

6. Organize your time. If you can schedule it correctly, you might find it cheaper to do-it-yourself. Items to DIY is car washing, haircuts, nails, lawn mowing, or home projects. Now in order to make this a money saving item, assess your skills and how long it would take you. If you have to spend hours to do a mediocre job, it might be better to just let the professional do it.

7. Classes. There are workshops that will help you organize your life and finances. Look at your local city programs to see if there is anything available.

Sorting through the clutter and organizing your time and finances will help you save money this year. These little tips will set you in the right direction.
