Weekend Projects for January

Welcome to 2011. It a time for a fresh new start and why not get a head start on the home improvement projects you promised yourself you would this year. Here are 4 things you can do on the weekends in January, to help maintain your home after all the rain we just had.

Weekend #1 is to put away all those holiday decorations! You will feel much better after you clear all the clutter. It is sad to say goodbye to all the holiday cheer, but it also will help you feel like you accomplished a great task. Don't just put all the decorations away. Replace the ones that you need to replace first. This is a much better time to buy the Christmas lights that need to be replaced or other decorations that were damaged over the holiday season. Why? Because everything is on sale now!

Weekend #2 is to fix all the wall and ceiling cracks. After all the rain it is very important to evaluate all the cracks. There is still more rain to come and if they are not attended to, it could be a much bigger project. Normally these cracks are usually just cosmetic, so don't panic. But it is a good idea to do a quick evolution to make sure you don't have a bigger problem on your hand. Even if they are cosmetic fixing them will make you have a better feeling because you won't have to look at them anymore. Going to the hardware store will help you get a good idea on how to fix these ugly cracks.

Weekend #3 is clean the tile and grout. I know you have been procrastinating on that one. Just do it. The type of tile and grout you have will determine the type of cleaning solution you use. If you do not have glazed grout make sure to use a natural of homemade cleanser. Again taking a quick trip to the hardware store or online will give you some great tips on how to get that done.

Weekend #4 is eliminate the creaks and squeaks. This one is pretty easy. Just get out the WD-40 and go for it. Hit all your hinges and don't forget the medicine cabinets and cupboard doors.
