Housing Tax Credit Not Over For Everyone

Benefits For Members Of The Military

West Palm Beach, Florida (Grassroots Newswire) 01-03-2010 --The housing tax credit that ended for most home buyers on April 30, 2010 was extended for qualifying members of the military and certain other federal employees. The extension applies to any individual (and, if married, the individual's spouse) who served on qualified official extended duty service outside of the United States for at least 90 days between December 31, 2008 and May 1, 2010.

There is an expiration date for the extension. An eligible taxpayer must buy, or enter into a binding contract to buy, a principle residence on or before April 30, 2011. If a binding contract is entered into by that date, the taxpayer has until June 30, 2011, to close on the purchase.
In many cases, the credit repayment (recapture) requirement is waived for member of the uniformed services, members of the Foreign Service and employees of the intelligence community if government orders are received by the individual ( or the individual's spouse) for qualified official duty service. The credit is allowable even if this happens during the year of purchase.
Additional credits and rebates are offered to any active or honorably discharged military personnel that purchase or sell their home through Exit Realty Neighbors. Barbara Yates-Glover states that her Grandfather served in all four branches of the military during World War II and it's a way to honor his memory as well as to thank the troops that risk their lives everyday for our freedom. Freedom to own our homes is just one of many freedoms they assure us of each day they serve.
