Since 1990, the United Way's service area has increased by over 27000 new residents, adding to the already growing human service needs in this area. While United Way cant meet all the needs, United Way-supported agencies are tackling problems which affect us all – agencies like SAYNO working to help coordinate drug abuse prevention and education efforts, the Family Guidance Center's Big Brother –Big Sister program, programs to help the young become productive adults (Gift of Life, Scouts, Boys & Girls clubs, YMCA's) and programs we wish people would never need…but they do (Chemical Addictions Program, Family Sunshine Center, Hospice of Montgomery, American Red Cross, Lighthouse Counseling Center).
