Kathleen Ahlin attends National Association of Realtors Mediation Training

Concord, NH (Grassroots Newswire) 07/22/2014 - REALTOR® Kathleen Ahlin, a prominent member of the New Hampshire Association of REALTORS® successfully completed a comprehensive multi-day training program conducted by the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR) at its Chicago headquarters. The training, specifically developed for REALTORS® and REALTOR® associations prepared Kathleen to mediate financial disputes between REALTORS® arising out of cooperative real estate transactions, as well as disputes between REALTORS® and their clients and customers. For over a century, the REALTOR® Code of Ethics has ensured cooperation between REALTORS® and enhanced service to consumers by requiring REALTORS® to arbitrate disputes among themselves, rather than resorting to the courts. But arbitration , while quicker and less expensive than litigation, still provides a "win-lose" outcome. "Mediation, on the other hand, is a facilitative, collaborative problem-solving tool that enables parties to reach a mutually agreeable outcome in a short time," said REALTOR® Brad Knapp of Lebanon, Ohio, Chair of the 2014 NAR Professional Standards Committee. "And," added Diane Mosley, the NAR's Director of Policy Resources, "it helps restore respect and cooperation between the disputing parties, which ultimately benefits consumers."

The NAR-sponsored training has been available to REALTORS® since 1999, and over a thousand REALTORS® and key  association staffers have benefited from the tools and techniques provided. "The faculty, which included NAR Educator of the Year Bruce Aydt, as well as Professor Lynn Cohn (Northwestern University Law School), and Professor Rene` Stemple Ellis (Duke Law School) provided one of the finest learning experiences I've ever participated in," said Kathleen. "I'm looking forward to using these newly-acquired tools and information to work for my local association and in the community, as well."
