2015 Class of Dandies Announced

April 21 at Coup d 'ata in Uptown

Minneapolis, Minnesota (Grassroots Newswire) April 13, 2015 -- The Dandies Project is proud to announce its Second Annual official launch on April 21, 2015 at Coup d’etat  in uptown Minneapolis located at 2923 Girard Ave South.

The Project began with a portfolio of photos which highlight the positive impact men of color have brought to their own community, not only doing it with a sense of purpose but a sense of style.

Event producer and philanthropist, Richard Moody set out with this idea and brought it to others within the community.  Local businesses that joined the Project include Renee Larson, owner of the Bow Tie Shoppe, for her passion in design and styling and Susan Swanson owner of Style by Susan, which does makeup artistry.  Nick Gallop of Gallop Studios, was enlisted for his work in photography and used his modern style to highlight the Dandies in this collector book. EXIT Realty Metro was added as a financial sponsor and for overall project coordination, Marcus Genzlinger of  Megainteractive and Amara Kamara, owner and trainer at Pillars Training round out the leadership team.

By definition a Dandy is: A gentleman who places particular importance upon physical aesthetics refined in language and leisurely hobbies, his life is driven with the importance of individuality while having a driven purpose.  From this concept The Dandies Project was born and has grown.

This being the second year of The Dandies Project, applications were submitted for the honor of being designated a part of the Second Annual Dandies Project. These applicants were reviewed and a selected group of applicants were interviewed based on their contributions to the community, determination of life long goals and desire to become a part of this elite group.  Following final selection, each Dandy completed their biography, was photographed at local establishments by renowned photographer Nick Gallop and the Second edition of “The Dandies Project” was edited and printed.

The 2015 Dandies will be celebrated at the introduction party to be held April 21^st at Coup d’etat in Uptown Minneapolis. The Books will  be available for sale at that time.  This  year’s release features these selected Dandies: Dan Michael Batista; Cesar Conde; Charles Dennis; Adetomiwa Gbadebo; Darren Hayes; Ryan Hoag; Michael Hullum; Geoff Jones; Patwin Lawrence; Brandon McCray; Larry McKenzie; McKinley Breeze Maxwell West; Francelino Henrique Zau; Babatunde Shonoiki.

“The energy and excitement around this release is quite exciting, giving many in the metro an opportunity to share their visions and dreams”, stated Moody.

The 2015 Dandies Introduction event will begin at 6 p.m., Tuesday April 21st, at Coup d’etat.  This event will provide an opportunity for attendees to meet and visit with each of the featured individuals. This year the proceeds from the benefit and book sales will go towards the mission project of the Dandies - Harvet Preparatory Academy of Minneapolis. The mission of the Harvet Prep Academy is to instruct, empower, enable and guide African American children to achieve superior academic, social and moral development.  In the last four years they have been steadily increasing the level of proficiency for all their students in reading.  More information is available at www.seed-harvet.org.
