‘ADOPT-A-FAMILY’ PROGRAM A SUCCESS!

EXIT Realty Solutions Gives Back

Spruce Grove, Alberta (Grassroots Newswire) Dec 21, 2011 -- “This is a new program we initiated this year. We wanted to give back to the community we live and work in.” explained Carson Beier, Broker/Owner of EXIT Realty Solutions. “We decided to ‘adopt-a-family’ and provide gifts and groceries to that family for Christmas. After exploring various channels, we chose a single mom with two young children who was really struggling to make ends meet. She had no money to buy gifts for her children.”

“Associates who wished to participate donated cash. We even had people from outside the office contribute!” said Amy Beier, Co-Owner. “And then . . . we went shopping!!”

“It took us three hours to spend the $1,000 we had collected,” said Tina Schryvershof, Office Manager and co-shopper. “Our plan was to provide as many staples as we could thereby freeing her grocery money to catch up on bills.”

“In the end,” said Beier “the back of our SUV was absolutely full! We had pajamas, clothing, mittens and toques, toys, books, all kinds of staples such as flour, sugar, pasta, rice, etc. We included a couple of frozen meals for those days when she comes home from work too tired to cook. We also bought wrapping paper so that she could wrap her children’s gifts and give them herself. “

The store at which they shopped was giving gift certificates each time a certain amount of money was spent. Those gift certificates were donated to the local Food Bank thereby helping the community as well.

Beier delivered the gifts late one evening. “It was the most awesome feeling! I handed her the remote and said, ‘Here. Open the door.’ The back of the SUV slowly opened and I told her ‘that is all for you.’ She could not believe it. As we unloaded, she said she could not wait to bake again. She was down to her last cup of flour.”

Giving is so addicting.
