EXIT Realty Cherry Creek Associate Broker Hosts Benefit in Support of the Michael Shepard Foundation
Denver, Colorado (Grassroots Newswire) 11/7/2019 --Michael Steffen, a Top Producing Agent at EXIT Realty Cherry Creek, recently held a brunch to benefit the Matthew Shepard Foundation, an organization dedicated to encouraging “individuals to embrace human dignity and diversity through outreach, advocacy and resource programs.”
Through the Spirit of EXIT Dollar-for-Dollar Matching Program, any money raised by EXIT offices and associates for local, approved & registered charities is then matched by EXIT’s Head Office. Working together with fellow members of the National Association of Gay and Lesbian Real Estate Professionals, Michael anticipated raising $5,000, happily matched by EXIT’s Head Office, through an auction and the sales of raffle tickets. Unsurprisingly to us, Michael exceeded those expectations and raised a whopping $7,787 bringing his total donation to the Matthew Shepard Foundation to $12,787.
As quoted directly from the foundation’s website, “On October 7, 1998, Matthew Shepard, a 21-year-old student at the University of Wyoming, was brutally attacked and tied to a fence in a field outside of Laramie, Wyo. And left to die. On October 12, Matt succumbed to his wounds in a hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado.” Judy and Dennis Shepard, Matthew’s parents, started the foundation to honor his life and his aspirations. Jason Marsden, Executive Director of the Matthew Shepard Foundation, wrote a letter to Michael expressing his appreciation. In it, he wrote, “Your contribution funds our work in four key areas <including> providing hate-crimes training for law enforcement officers to ensure our communities are safe.”
