Resurrection Missions Honors Long-standing Montgomery Philanthropists

Richard and Carol Hodges honored for service

Montgomery, AL (and surrounding areas) December 9, 2016 - Resurrection Catholic Missions hosted its Annual Benefit Gala celebrating 73 years of service to the people of the River Region in Central Alabama. Resurrection's Mission Director, Father Manuel Williams, C.R. was the MC of the lively evening touting a New Orleans Jazz theme. The dining room at the RSA Activity Center was transformed into a Jazz Grand Ballroom.

Tables were adorned with centerpieces of colorful flowers encircled with wooden branches wrapped in sparking lights, Ron Handy played Jazz tunes of the 1920's on a variety of instruments, providing mellow harmonies' and favorite rhythms of New Orleans. Gourmet Louisiana Cuisine created by Designs by Debbie pleased patron's palettes.

After dinner guests were captivated by the well appointed Silent Auction featuring items from Stonehenge, Harold's Fine Jewelry, Christine' Feathered Nest, Chappy's Deli, Pickwick Antiques Joseph A. Bank, Clothier and many other local businesses. The variety of treasures made for spirited bidding between patrons. One corner was transformed into Santa's Gift Shop by Resurrection  volunteers, giving guests an opportunity to shop for holiday treasures.

The fun was culminated by a thrilling Reverse Raffle, as guest's tickets were randomly eliminated in the Reverse Raffle.

In addition to the gala festivities, the focal point of the evening was Fr. Manuel's announcement of the 2016 Veritas et Caritas Award recipients, Carol and Richard Hodges. Fr. Manuel shared a few stories highlighting the variety of ways the couple have served Resurrection Mission over the years, followed by a heart felt thank you to Dick and Carol for their generous service. The award given was a stunning Wiktor Szostal creation. In attendance for the ceremony were all of Dick and Carol's children and many friends. Resurrection event organizer, Michelle Coe, exuberantly stated, the tallies were not in just yet but she was very pleased with the funds raised and the generosity of so many.

She specifically thanked the sponsors; Beasley Allen Attorneys at Law, Robert D. Reynolds, L.L.C., EXIT HODGES REAL ESTATE and Williams Interiors. The proceeds from the Gala allow Resurrection Catholic Missions to continue providing services to the people of Alabama who need the most help - the poor, the elderly, disabled children and school children of Montgomery.
